Their Vision
Since 1978, Big Sur Land Trust has conserved over 40,000 acres in the Central Coast region of California. Their mission is to inspire love of land across generations, conservation of unique Monterey County landscapes, and access to outdoor experiences for all.
To continue this vital work of conserving and caring for Monterey County’s alluring lands, for residents, visitors and future generations, the board of trustees launched a $7 million campaign – the first in their organization’s history.
Our Strategy
Netzel Grigsby Associates facilitated a development assessment looking back on three years of data for BSLT to determine opportunities for growth and areas of strength and challenge. Based on what was learned, a capital campaign was launched with a compelling case for support. The campaign strategy included a campaign plan, communications plan, coaching and training for board, volunteers and staff and prospect research. Thoughtful cultivation was planned, leading to individualized solicitations. Netzel Grigsby Associates worked with staff and key volunteers to implement the plan and to maintain internal systems, such as pledge fulfillment and meaningful gift acknowledgement. Focusing on best practices in fundraising, Big Sur Land Trust was positioned for success.
Success Together
Through the campaign, Big Sur Land Trust was able to deepen the engagement of its key volunteers and donors. The campaign focused on five crucial projects that reflect their values of land conservation, stewardship and inclusivity. Partnering with Netzel Grigsby Associates, Big Sur Land Trust has raised $7,105,850 or 101.5% of goal in support of the diverse environments of Monterey County.
“Big Sur Land Trust’s Board of Trustees and staff are grateful we decided to have Netzel Grigsby Associates, Inc. provide strategic direction and guidance on our organization’s first campaign. The NGA staff quickly became an integral part of our team and steadfast champions for the overall success of our campaign.”
