Their Vision
San Diego’s Diversionary Theatre—the third oldest continuously producing LGBT theatre in the nation—has a vision to foster and amplify the next generation of LGBT voices, providing live entertainment in a dynamic, inclusive, and provocative environment that celebrates and preserves the LGBT culture. When Diversionary Theatre’s leadership made a decision to improve the Theatre both structurally and financially, it turned to NGA to guide the organization in strengthening its planning and fundraising. With increased resources, facilities will be improved, youth outreach programs will be enhanced, and diverse programming and acclaimed performances will continue to inspire and educate future generations.
Our Strategy
A development assessment was conducted, which led to recommendations to help Diversionary Theatre fundraise more effectively. The Board of Trustees is in the process of implementing best practices in cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and board development to significantly strengthen the organization. The leadership, with continued guidance from NGA, is focused on ways to connect to the generosity of the community, including the launch of a major fundraising initiative.
Success Together
Diversionary Theatre is undergoing a transformation, guided by NGA, moving through improvements that are both structural and financial. Fundraising is undergoing systematic changes, which has led to increased engagement of volunteer leaders, and to new policies that will strengthen the organization today and well into the future. Dedicated volunteer leaders have stepped forward to guide an ambitious fundraising initiative and action teams are underway. Diversionary Theatre is seeing a significant increase in its fundraising, and is well positioned to further grow its vibrant arts performances and program impact. Already an award-winning organization, through work with NGA, Diversionary Theatre is moving forward in its efforts to take center stage as a recognized influencer of social awareness, acceptance, and inclusion.
