John C. Spokes, CFRE, Senior Vice President
John C. Spokes, CFRE, is a senior vice president with Netzel Grigsby Associates who enjoys serving as a strategic partner to nonprofit organizations and institutions aiming to increase their impact.
John believes that there are no shortcuts to achieving an organization’s mission and in building a sufficient donor pipeline. By developing a plan, implementing its steps and evaluating progress, organizations can achieve any objective. John guides his clients one vital step at a time toward their ultimate goal.
John specializes in planning and implementing capital and annual campaigns, strategic plans, and board development for a broad spectrum of nonprofit organizations in the arts, education, health care, social services and youth development. Recent clients include Skylight Theatre Company (Strategic Planning), Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties (Resource Development Assessment), and Mirman School ($12.5 million campaign).
Prior to joining NGA, John operated his own nonprofit management consulting business in Minneapolis and served as chief development officer for several nonprofits including Chrysalis, A Center for Women, where he successfully implemented the agency’s first multimillion-dollar capital campaign. From 1994-1998, he was a key part of the development team at Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater, working as director of annual and individual giving, interim development director, and director of community giving. He was also co-founder and managing director of the Eye of the Storm Theatre.
John is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He is an advocate for access to the arts for everyone and is Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of Los Angeles.
John holds a Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College.
