Mary Anne Chern, FAHP, ACFRE, Senior Counsel

Mary Anne Chern, FAHP, ACFRE, has 35+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience. She is passionate about developing philanthropy strategy which can support and elevate organizational strategy; she also believes that, in order to create a sustainable culture of philanthropy, both internal and external stakeholders must be engaged in fundraising planning and implementation. Mary Anne excels at building relationships and collaborating with Board members, donors, and community partners. She also has a strong track record in training philanthropy staff to focus on the Key Performance Indicators that lead to fundraising success.

She is one of only seven individuals in the U.S. to earn both professional certifications: the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) and Fellow of Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (FAHP). Mary Anne is a member of the Association of Fund Raising Executives global Ethics Committee, and she is a past Chair of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.

Mary Anne's experience includes capital campaigns, fundraising systemization and operations, and individual, corporate, and foundation solicitation training and strategy. From 1997-2021 she served at Adventist Health White Memorial in East Los Angeles as the hospital’s Foundation President, and she believes that philanthropy is most successful when it is tailored to fit the culture of the organization and community. Most recently she has been in high demand to plan fundraising for health equity and DEIJ projects.

Mary Anne earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina with post-graduate studies at the University of California Santa Barbara.
